We have seen different variations of the meme below as representative of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility goals. It usually includes alternative views of the first three windows.
It has always bothered me because the people are perpetually outside the fence never fully participating and seemingly eternally needing help. I fixed that here.
In social science, agency is defined as, “The capacity of individuals to act independently and to make their own free choice.” Building those foundational pieces of health, education, and wealth supports this independence. Our goal should always be to move everyone inside the stadium where they have the capacity and self-sufficiency to choose and buy their own seat, popcorn, and a drink.
We are not there yet for Black, Indigenous, People of Other Color (BIPOC), and other marginalized groups, but we are working very hard to breakdown the systems that have long prevented full participation. #diversity #equity #inclusion #accessibility #agency
